AUR proposes law to bar Mirabela Grădinaru from accompanying President Dan abroad

The AUR party has introduced a bill that would prevent Mirabela Grădinaru from joining President Nicușor Dan on official foreign trips funded by the state.

AUR lawmakers have tabled a bill to revise the 1994 law on presidential services and the use of public funds for foreign trips. The amendment defines a narrow list of eligible delegation members—administrative staff, public officials, diplomatic corps, technical experts, interpreters, and security teams. It also allows the president's spouse to be funded when protocol requires, but does not extend that right to a partner such as Mirabela Grădinaru, who is not married to Nicușor Dan.

The proposal expressly bans the use of state resources for individuals lacking an official position who accompany the president to international events. The initiative follows Grădinaru's recent participation in several overseas conferences and UN meetings, which the president has described as beneficial for Romania's image.

Why it matters

The bill could restrict how public funds are used for presidential travel and affect the role of unofficial partners in diplomatic activities.
