AUR senator challenges Bolojan government's deficit claims with Eurostat data
Petrișor Peiu used Eurostat figures to argue that the Bolojan administration's reported budget deficit is misleading.
Petrișor Peiu continued his critique of the Bolojan-USR coalition by publishing a comparison between the government's announced budget deficit and Eurostat's official statistics. He argued that the administration reports a smaller deficit based on cash flows, whereas Eurostat calculates a higher deficit using the European System of Accounts, which includes committed spending not yet paid. Peiu claimed this discrepancy reveals that the government has delayed payments to suppliers and state institutions, effectively hiding the true fiscal gap.
He concluded that the government's narrative of deficit reduction is therefore unfounded. The post framed the issue as a continuation of the former prime minister’s alleged use of misleading figures, similar to previous government communications.
