Australian adventurer Jordan Yap discovered dead after missing trek in Peru

Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old Melbourne hiker, was found dead in Peru’s Huayhuash range after disappearing during a solo expedition.

Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old hiker from Melbourne, was reported missing after he set out on a solo ten-day trek through Peru’s rugged Huayhuash mountain circuit on September 14. When he did not report to his hotel and missed a scheduled flight, his partner Anita alerted authorities. A coordinated search by the rescue organization Socorro Andino Peruano, aided by Australian consular officials, eventually recovered his body near the remote village of Machaycancha in the northern part of the range.

The family announced his death on social media, thanking volunteers, police and rescue teams for their efforts. Yap had previously completed solo hikes across Australia, China, Turkey and Jordan, and was remembered as an enthusiastic outdoor enthusiast.
