Australian Border Force seizes illicit tobacco in Perth and Margaret River raids
The Australian Border Force conducted a week-long operation across 45 outlets in Perth and Margaret River, confiscating large quantities of illegal cigarettes and related products.
During a coordinated blitz, authorities searched 45 retail locations, including barbers, gift shops and clothing stores, as well as several storage sites and a residence. The raids yielded over 1.46 million illicit cigarettes, 197 kg of loose-leaf tobacco, 7,900 vaping devices, 990 cigars and 3,360 nicotine pouches. The seized items were valued at more than $814,000. Fifteen businesses were temporarily forced to close as a result of the operation.
Why it matters
The bust disrupts illegal tobacco supply chains and reduces unregulated products that evade taxes and health regulations.
