Australian Mastercard users face payment declines amid global outage

Mastercard transactions are being rejected for customers in Australia because of a worldwide issue, prompting CommBank to advise alternative payment methods.

A global disruption affecting Mastercard is causing card payments to fail for Australian users, according to reports from Commonwealth Bank. The outage was reflected in over 1,700 user reports on Downdetector around mid-day on Saturday, with most complaints related to fund transfers and mobile banking. CommBank instructed affected customers to insert their card and select the "savings" option to process payments via eftpos, while confirming that all other services, including ATMs, remain operational.

Why it matters

The outage disrupts everyday payments for Australian consumers and may affect merchants relying on Mastercard.
