Australian PM praises Modi for historic expansion of India's energy access
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Narendra Modi has overseen the greatest increase in energy access in any country or era, highlighting strong India-Australia ties.
At a policy forum, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for achieving the most extensive expansion of energy access in human history, saying more people now have power than ever before anywhere. Albanese underscored the growing strategic relationship between India and Australia, describing Modi as a close partner. His remarks arrived as the global energy market is under pressure due to shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz linked to the US-Israel-Iran conflict.
Unlike Pakistan and Bangladesh, which are grappling with shortages, India has largely maintained stable fuel supplies and only modest price rises. Modi has pointed to a diversification of energy imports—from 27 to 41 countries—as the key to this resilience. The Ministry of External Affairs echoed the strategy, emphasizing continued sourcing from a wide range of nations to safeguard the needs of 1.4 billion people.
Why it matters
The praise signals stronger India-Australia cooperation and highlights India's energy-security model amid global supply shocks.
