Australian rescue teams save Canadian sailor adrift in remote Indian Ocean
A Canadian sailor stranded 1,000 km southeast of Christmas Island was rescued by Australian Maritime Safety Authority and Royal Australian Navy personnel after his vessel began taking on water.
The sailor's boat started leaking far out in the Indian Ocean, prompting the Australian Maritime Safety Authority to locate him and airdrop essential supplies. Naval units from the Royal Australian Navy then reached the scene and hoisted the sailor aboard using a winch. The operation took place roughly 1,000 kilometres southeast of Christmas Island.
