Australian shares poised to climb as US and European markets end week higher

ASX futures point to a 0.4% rise this morning after Wall Street and European indices closed the week in positive territory.

Futures for the ASX 200 suggest the Australian market will start the day about 0.4% higher, building on modest gains recorded last week. The rally mirrors a broader upswing on Wall Street, where the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq each posted gains of roughly 0.6% to 0.8% on Friday. European markets also ended the week strong, with Germany's DAX, the UK's FTSE and the Eurostoxx50 all climbing around 1.1%.

Commodity prices were mixed: spot gold rose 1.5% to $4,194 per ounce, while Brent and WTI crude each edged up 0.4%. The Australian dollar appreciated to 69.82 US cents, and the 10-year bond yield in Australia held at 5.35%. Analysts noted that oil markets could be influenced by recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport and statements from US President Donald Trump about an energy cease-fire. The morning will also feature the Commonwealth Bank of Australia's September wage and labour insights, adding further focus for traders.
