Australian tourist arrested at Bali airport after viral video of public sex act

Billy Aspinall, a 27-year-old Australian from Coolum Beach, was apprehended at Ngurah Rai Airport after facial-recognition technology identified him in CCTV footage of a public sexual act recorded on August 22 in Tibubeneng village, North Kuta. The video, which spread online, shows Aspinall and an unidentified woman performing several acts near a residence for about 15 minutes before walking away after a local woman shouted at them.

Police report that Aspinall attempted to depart for Brisbane and was secured by immigration officials, then transferred to Badung Resort Police for further legal processing. The woman in the clip is still being sought and is believed to be a tourist. Authorities described the behavior as reckless, noting it could damage the image of security and tourism in the area, especially under Indonesia’s recently enacted criminal code that criminalises public indecency. Immigration has placed Aspinall on a monitoring list for future border checks.
