Austria's September unemployment climbs to 381,200, up 1.6% YoY
September unemployment in Austria rose to about 381,200, an increase of 6,000 people or 1.6% from a year earlier.
According to the Social Ministry, September saw Austria’s unemployment figures climb to around 381,200, adding 6,000 people compared with the previous year. The increase touched almost every age group and federal state except Vienna. Women’s unemployment rose by 6%, whereas men’s fell by 0.6%, and youth unemployment fell 1.5% across the country.
The number of apprentices seeking work grew by 8%, while the count of open apprenticeship positions remained unchanged, creating a shortfall of 3,977 vacancies. Unemployment among foreign-born workers stayed constant, but domestic unemployment rose 4.3%. Long-term unemployment surged 11% to 104,101, now representing 34% of all registered unemployed.
