Austrian builder PORR eyes staff, equipment and projects from V-Híd without buying the firm

PORR said it will not purchase V-Híd Építő Zrt., but may take over its workers, machinery and ongoing construction sites if Hungarian authorities agree.

Sources indicate that an agreement may soon be announced between V-Híd Építő Zrt. owner Lőrinc Mészáros and the Austrian construction group PORR. While the two parties discussed a possible sale, PORR confirmed it does not intend to buy the company outright. Instead, the firm is evaluating the option of taking over V-Híd's employees, machinery and ongoing building contracts to keep jobs intact and continue the projects.

PORR stressed that any such step would be taken only after discussions with the Hungarian government, which would need to approve the transfer. The company sees the arrangement as a way to strengthen its long-term market position in Hungary. It also noted that no political or social activities of V-Híd would be continued under this scenario.

Why it matters

The potential transfer could affect jobs and construction projects in Hungary while expanding an Austrian firm's market foothold.
