Austrian dairy cooperatives vote to merge Obersteirische Molkerei with Berglandmilch
Cooperative members of Obersteirische Molkerei approved a merger with Berglandmilch at a meeting in Kobenz, and the next step awaits approval from competition authorities.
During a shareholders' meeting in Kobenz, the majority of Obersteirische Molkerei’s cooperative members voted in favor of joining forces with the Upper Austrian dairy Berglandmilch. The vote satisfied the required two-thirds majority, prompting the next phase of approval by Berglandmilch’s board. If Berglandmilch also votes affirmatively, the transaction will be submitted to the Bundeswettbewerbsbehörde for competition clearance.
The merger would integrate the milk-producing activities of both cooperatives, which together serve a large number of regional farmers. Berglandmilch declined to comment when approached for a statement. The outcome will shape the dairy market in the region.
