Austrian Freedom Party demands explanation for uninspected Ukrainian shipment
The Freedom Party (FPÖ) has asked the Austrian government to clarify how a Ukrainian-linked cargo passed through the country without customs or security checks.
The Freedom Party (FPÖ) is pressing the Austrian government for details on a Ukrainian-linked shipment that allegedly traversed the country without customs or security screening. Party officials claim a Volkswagen minibus transported the unregistered cargo, which was cleared through diplomatic channels on the grounds that a Ukrainian delegation was heading to the Davos World Economic Forum. FPÖ chief secretary Christian Hafenecker warned that the incident could jeopardise Austria’s neutral stance and expose foreign intelligence operations.
The foreign ministry acknowledged receipt of a diplomatic note regarding the convoy but declined to comment on what was inside the vehicle. The FPÖ plans to raise a parliamentary question to identify who authorized the passage and why inspections were bypassed, especially after recent arrests of two Ukrainian spies in Vienna.
Why it matters
