Authors amend paper on LINE-1's role in lung adenocarcinoma, removing unsupported ZNF695 claims

A correction has been issued for a recent Nature article, clarifying that no experimental evidence links ZNF695 to direct LINE-1 regulation.

A correction notice has been released for the Nature paper titled “Uncovering the role of LINE-1 in the evolution of lung adenocarcinoma.” The amendment addresses language that could be read as supporting a direct mechanistic role for ZNF695 in regulating LINE-1, noting that no experimental data substantiate such a claim. Consequently, the abstract, results and discussion sections have been edited to reflect only an associative relationship, and Extended Data Fig. 10 and Supplementary Fig. 36, along with related text about dominant-negative effects, have been removed.

An inaccurate statement derived from KRABopedia in the Methods section was also excised, and the phrase “ZNF695 target genes” was changed to “ZNF695 protein interactors.” The authors emphasize that these revisions do not alter any primary genomic analyses or the study’s principal conclusions. The original version is available as supplementary material accompanying the correction.
