Avengers: Endgame Reclaims Top Spot as Highest-Grossing Film with $2.925 Billion

A recent theatrical re-release of "Avengers: Endgame" has pushed its worldwide earnings to $2.925 billion, overtaking "Avatar" as the all-time box-office leader.

"Avengers: Endgame" has once again become the highest-grossing movie in history, surpassing "Avatar" after a recent theatrical re-release lifted its total to $2.925 billion worldwide. "Avatar," which previously held the record for a decade, now stands at $2.923 billion after five prior re-releases. Disney, one outlet owner of the former 20th Century Fox catalog, also oversees seven of the ten top-grossing films, including "Avatar: The Way of Water," "Titanic," and "Avengers: Infinity War."

The latest run of "Endgame" contributed more than $126 million to its total and has theater owners excited for the forthcoming "Avengers: Doomsday," slated for a December debut. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are returning for the new installment, the 39th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which continues to dominate box-office earnings.

Why it matters

The shift in box-office rankings highlights the enduring financial power of major franchise re-releases and Disney's dominance in global film revenue.
