Average UK household faces £1,500 Christmas bill amid soaring costs
A new survey finds the typical British family expects to spend about £1,500 on Christmas this year, a rise of roughly 29% from last season.
Research from Park Christmas Savings reveals that the average UK household plans to spend roughly £1,500 on the holiday season, up 29% from the previous year. The budget includes £693.80 on presents, £185.80 on a Christmas dinner, and £158.20 on sweets, while drinks, décor and activities add further expense. Four out of five adults surveyed expressed concern about financing the celebration, and over a third expect to resort to credit cards, overdrafts, loans or borrowing from friends and family.
Just 22% of the 2,000 participants have been setting aside money during the year. Simon Birch, Park Christmas Savings’ director of prepayment, urged families to spread costs over time and create a dedicated Christmas fund. Younger generations, especially Gen Z, anticipate spending far more than older cohorts but also report higher anxiety about affording the holiday.
