Avolon places order for 250 new Boeing and Airbus jets pending shareholder sign-off

Irish lessor Avolon announced firm orders for 250 aircraft - 140 Boeing 737 MAXs and 110 Airbus models - subject to approval by Bohai Leasing shareholders.

Avolon, the Irish aircraft leasing firm, confirmed firm orders for 250 new jets, comprising 140 Boeing 737 MAXs and 110 Airbus aircraft - 75 A320neo family and 35 A330neo - with additional options for 100 more. The deal awaits approval from the shareholders of Bohai Leasing Co., Ltd., the majority owner of Avolon, and is anticipated to be cleared by the end of October 2026. Approval would lift Avolon's total firm aircraft commitments to 749 jets.

Andy Cronin, Avolon's chief executive, said the orders underscore robust market demand for the latest, fuel-efficient planes. The company also reported a Q3 update, noting acquisition of 10 aircraft, sale of 29, and 112 pending sales, while launching an $855 million term loan and a $1.5 billion commercial paper program. Avolon now manages a fleet of 1,092 aircraft across 138 airlines in 62 countries.

Why it matters

The order highlights growing reliance on leasing firms to supply airlines with modern, fuel-efficient aircraft.
