Axa makes artificial intelligence central to its new strategic plan

Axa announced that AI will be a cornerstone of its latest strategy, aiming to boost profitability and efficiency across its core businesses.

Axa has placed artificial intelligence at the heart of its new strategic roadmap, expecting the technology to generate significant additional earnings before tax by 2029. AI will be rolled out across every major business unit from next year, a move described by strategy head Guillaume Borie as essential for speed, efficiency and fairness. The insurer also plans to tighten cost discipline, improve overhead structures and address its headquarters organization to support the AI push.

CFO Alban de Mailly Nesle said these measures aim to lift overall profitability beyond the ten-billion-euro mark and to broaden the company’s reach into small-and-medium enterprises, life insurance, direct sales and low-cost inclusive products. Shareholders are promised stable dividends and possible share buybacks, while the board reaffirmed Thomas Buberl’s mandate through 2030.

Why it matters

Axa's AI-driven strategy could reshape insurance operations and set a benchmark for digital transformation in finance.
