Ayushman Bharat reaches 600 million people, delivering record health savings
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that over 600 million Indians now have access to a ₹5 lakh annual health cover under Ayushman Bharat, marking eight years of the scheme.
On the eighth anniversary of Ayushman Bharat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the programme now provides a ₹5 lakh annual cashless health cover to more than 600 million Indians, positioning it as the largest scheme of its kind globally. He noted that this coverage has generated unprecedented savings on medical expenses for both poor and middle-class families. Health Minister J P Nadda reported that 485.4 million Ayushman cards have been created and that over 130 million beneficiaries have already accessed treatment.
The scheme has financed hospitalisations and procedures valued at over ₹2 trillion across a wide network of empanelled hospitals. Additionally, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have recorded more than 5 billion visits, bolstering primary healthcare at the community level. Officials emphasized that these figures reflect real families avoiding medical debt and receiving timely care.
