B&M sells low-cost heated throw that runs at about 2p per hour
B&M is offering a large electric blanket that costs roughly 2p an hour to run, providing a cheap way to stay warm without central heating.
B&M has introduced a 120 × 160 cm electric blanket called the Cosy Shop Waffle Heated Throw, available for £35 in mink, brown or charcoal. The blanket features nine heat settings, a digital remote, an auto-shut-off after two hours and a washable design, and it draws roughly 60-100 watts, equating to about 2p per hour at the UK electricity price cap. MoneySavingExpert’s Martin Lewis cites the product as part of a “heat the person, not the home” strategy, which can cut heating costs by over 90% compared with running a gas boiler continuously.
While the blanket can keep a single room comfortable, experts warn that leaving a house unheated in winter may cause damp, mould or frozen pipes. The item is marketed as a thin, comfortable alternative for those looking to reduce energy bills during colder evenings.
Why it matters
It offers a low-cost heating option that could help UK households lower energy expenses amid rising utility prices.
