Baguio plans P180 million underdrainage system to curb lagoon flooding
Baguio city officials are planning a P180-million underdrainage system to curb frequent flooding in the City Camp Lagoon area.
The city government, working with the Department of Public Works and Highways, is evaluating a P180-million underdrainage project to mitigate repeated floods in the 11,033-square-metre City Camp Lagoon. City Engineer Richard Lardizabal noted that runoff from Naguilian Road, Quezon Hill and Lower Rock Quarry feeds the lagoon, which contains two natural sinkholes that collect water. The municipality previously widened the lagoon’s throat, and the timing of construction remains under discussion.
Why it matters
The project seeks to prevent repeated floods that affect residents and infrastructure around Baguio’s City Camp Lagoon.
