Bakery’s Missing Cinnamon Rolls Turn Out to Be Seized by Border Patrol, Not Theft
A Sunrise bakery owner believed 350 cinnamon rolls were stolen, but police found the Uber driver had been detained by Border Patrol, resulting in a $3,100 loss.
On Aug. 22, Roll & Dough owner Julie Pierre hired an Uber courier to transport roughly 350 cinnamon rolls from Sunrise to the Yellow Green Farmers Market in Hollywood. When the order failed to show up, Pierre announced a suspected $3,100 theft on social media. Sunrise Police later clarified that no robbery occurred; the driver, Colombian citizen Ivan Dario Rico Molano, was intercepted by U.S. Border Patrol on Interstate 95 after a records check revealed his undocumented status.
The silver Kia Carnival contained the pastries, which were retrieved on Aug. 27 and returned to Pierre, but they had to be discarded. Molano was taken into custody for immigration violations, and Pierre corrected her earlier accusation, noting the financial loss remained despite the rolls not being stolen.
