Bali prosecutors request five-year sentences and deportation for two Indian online gambling operators
Prosecutors in Denpasar asked a court to imprison Piyush Sharma and Yash Raj Singh Gaur for five years each and to deport them after serving their terms.
In a hearing before the Denpasar District Court, prosecutor Ni Made N. Lumisensi presented evidence that Piyush Sharma and Yash Raj Singh Gaur operated an overseas online gambling syndicate from two Bali locations. The court was asked to impose five-year prison sentences on each, subtracting any time they have already served, and to order their deportation upon completion of the sentences. Sharma was described as the operational coordinator handling equipment, connectivity and task assignments, while Gaur allegedly managed administration and promoted the gambling sites on Instagram under the handle @ekdant_book.
Prosecutors also sought four-year terms for the remaining 33 Indian defendants and their eventual removal from the country. The case involves at least seven gambling websites, including rambetexchange.com and ekdant.casino.
