Balochistan chief minister denounces Dasht Goran attack as terrorism, not a cultural practice
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti condemned the Dasht Goran shooting, saying it has no basis in Baloch values and ordered inspections of school buildings across the province.
During a session of the Balochistan Assembly, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti condemned a morning attack in Dasht Goran that resulted in the death of Ahmed Nawaz Mengal and injured another, emphasizing that the incident does not reflect Baloch cultural values but is an act of terrorism. He urged the district administration to investigate the shooting and called for a clear definition of any legitimate conflict zones. Bugti also spoke about the high-profile Asma Jattak case, confirming that his government is in touch with her family and that allegations made on the assembly floor were inaccurate.
He highlighted the recent school roof collapse in Peshawar, urging the Education Department, the Communications and Works Department, and local councillors to inspect every government and private school building in Balochistan for safety. Former chief minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch supported the call for comprehensive school inspections, noting that madrassa facilities must also be checked. Bugti pledged that authorities will close any dilapidated structures until they are made safe.
Why it matters
The statement separates terrorism from Baloch culture and triggers province-wide safety checks of schools.
