BAM acquires A. Hak to strengthen underground energy infrastructure

Bouwbedrijf BAM has purchased A. Hak, a specialist in underground pipelines and heat networks operating in the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Bouwbedrijf BAM announced the acquisition of A. Hak, a leading firm in the installation of heat networks and long-distance transport pipelines, for half a billion euros. The purchase aligns with BAM chief Ruud Joosten's strategy to broaden the company's geographic reach within the Netherlands and to grow its presence in the United Kingdom's water and energy infrastructure market. A. Hak, based in Geldermalsen, works primarily in the Netherlands but also has projects in Belgium and the United Kingdom, and will retain its brand name after the deal.

While the transaction secures new opportunities for customers and employees, the exact effect on A. Hak's 900 full-time workforce has not been detailed. BAM, part of the Koninklijke BAM Groep B.V., reported revenue of over 7 billion euros and a profit of 211 million euros last year, underscoring its strong position amid sector challenges such as labor shortages and regulatory constraints. The move further consolidates BAM's status as the largest Dutch construction firm, alongside peers Heijmans and Dura Vermeer, which are also seeing increased order flow.

Why it matters

The acquisition expands BAM's capacity to deliver critical underground energy infrastructure across Europe.
