Bandhan Bank shares surge up to 8% after report of potential investor interest
Bandhan Bank stock jumped as much as 8% on Tuesday following a media report that Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s International Holding Company may consider buying a stake in its promoter.
Bandhan Bank’s stock rallied sharply on Tuesday, gaining up to 8% after a report that International Holding Company, linked to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is in preliminary talks to acquire a stake in promoter Bandhan Financial Services Limited. The stock opened at ₹162, rose to a high of ₹171.68, and was trading at ₹169.40, about 7.5% above the opening price by 11 AM. This outperformed the Nifty 50, which was up roughly 0.53% at 22,480.
Trading volume was robust, with more than 29 million shares—around ₹490 crore—changing hands. Equity strategists note that the bank’s current price, roughly one-times its book value, may draw medium- to long-term investors, and institutional participation could increase, potentially sparking a turnaround similar to that seen at RBL Bank. Bandhan Financial Services Limited holds a 37.5% stake in the bank, and the talks are still at an early stage. The lender reported a 35% year-on-year profit rise to ₹502 crore in Q1FY27, with net interest income up 5.9% and improved asset quality, showing gross NPA at 3.1% and net NPA at 0.9%.
Why it matters
The stock surge reflects market sensitivity to potential large-scale investment in Bandhan Bank, which could reshape its ownership and future performance.
