Bangkok pitches WorldPride 2030 to boost LGBTQIA+ visibility across Asia
Bangkok has submitted a bid to host WorldPride 2030, promising funding, activist fellowships and regional partnerships to strengthen LGBTQIA+ communities throughout Asia.
Bangkok’s bid to host WorldPride 2030 seeks to turn the global parade into a catalyst for enduring LGBTQIA+ advocacy across Asia, offering at least 150 fully funded activist fellowships with a majority reserved for participants from the Global South. The plan includes a week-long Human Rights Forum feeding into a Bangkok Action 2030 framework that tackles legal recognition, family rights, health equity and digital freedoms.
A proposed Pride City Network Asia will link local Pride groups, authorities and NGOs, while a permanent fund and a SOGIESC Museum and Archive aim to preserve Asian queer histories. The initiative builds on Thailand’s 2025 legalization of same-sex marriage, positioning the event as a milestone for regional solidarity.
Why it matters
The bid could provide unprecedented resources and visibility for LGBTQIA+ activists across a diverse and often restrictive region.
