Bangladesh prepares for a tougher Australian side in Mackay Test

Bangladesh coach Phil Simmons warned that Australia will step up their game in the second Test after a historic win in Darwin.

Bangladesh secured a nine-wicket win in the opening Test at Darwin, marking their inaugural victory on Australian ground and prompting Australian media to label the match a "Darwin Disaster." Coach Phil Simmons cautioned that the World Test Championship leaders will come back stronger in the upcoming Mackay Test and urged his players to either sustain their current level or improve marginally. He left open the possibility of recalling left-arm bowler Shoriful Islam, who missed the first match with a hamstring issue, but emphasized his preference for a stable, winning lineup.

Australia responded by replacing Jake Weatherald with Matt Renshaw as an opener and considered a four-paceman attack before finalising their XI. Captain Pat Cummins admitted the team fell short of its best in Darwin and called for translating form into results in the next game.

Why it matters

The series could shift momentum in the World Test Championship and affect both teams' rankings.
