Bangladesh's nine-wicket triumph in Darwin dents India's WTC aspirations

Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in Darwin, a result that pushes them ahead of India in the World Test Championship standings.

Bangladesh achieved a nine-wicket victory against Australia in Darwin, their inaugural Test win on Australian soil since 2003 and one of the most notable results in their four-decade cricket history. The match, played on a balanced pitch at Marrara Stadium, saw Cameron Green score his maiden Test century before Bangladesh seized control. The win raises Bangladesh's World Test Championship percentage to 66.67%, moving them above India, which remains at 48.15% after mixed recent results.

India's path now includes Tests in Sri Lanka, New Zealand and a five-match series against Australia, leaving little room for further point losses. The shift in standings widens the gap between Bangladesh and India to more than 18 percentage points, tightening India's route to the next WTC final.

Why it matters

The result reshapes the World Test Championship race, making India's path to the final more difficult.
