Bank Branches Shut Nationwide from Sept 28-Oct 4 Amid Strike and Holiday
Customers will face branch closures from September 28 to October 4 due to a three-day bank strike and the Gandhi Jayanti holiday.
A three-day nationwide bank strike organized by the United Forum of Bank Unions will keep branches closed from September 28 to September 30, potentially disrupting over-the-counter services in many states. In addition, all banks will observe a uniform holiday on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Digital channels—including net banking, mobile apps, one outlet and ATMs—will continue to function, allowing routine transactions to proceed.
Services that require a physical presence, such as cash deposits, cheque clearance, in-person KYC and document verification, will be unavailable until branches reopen. Because holiday schedules can differ by region, the RBI recommends that customers consult its state-wise banking holiday calendar or contact their local branch for confirmation. Planning ahead can help avoid inconvenience during this period of reduced physical banking access.
