Banks and insurers urged to work directly with flood victims' families for relief
Bank Negara Malaysia says banks and insurance/takaful firms should coordinate directly with families affected by the Nepal-China floods to provide fee waivers, asset protection and claim assistance.
Bank Negara Malaysia announced that banks and insurance and takaful operators have been asked to reach out directly to families impacted by the recent Nepal-China flooding. The central bank highlighted that, depending on each family's situation, institutions may consider measures such as waiving specific fees, protecting customer assets and deposits, and facilitating insurance or takaful claim procedures. Victims' relatives are urged to engage with their own banks and insurers for further assistance.
Should they require more information or support, they can contact the relevant financial institution. Bank Negara reaffirmed its commitment, together with the broader financial sector, to provide appropriate aid in line with existing laws and regulatory requirements, and will continue to monitor progress.
