Barcelona reaches personal terms with Lautaro Martinez, but Inter blocks transfer

Barcelona have reportedly agreed personal terms with Lautaro Martinez, yet Inter Milan have not received an offer and say they will not sell their captain.

Barcelona's effort to replace departing forwards Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres appears to have progressed after the club reportedly settled personal terms with Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez. The agreement, said to have been reached following a meeting in Madrid between Barcelona sporting director Deco, Bojan Krkic and Martinez’s representative, covers the player’s contract expectations. Nonetheless, Inter Milan, where Martinez serves as captain and is contracted until 2029, have not received a formal offer and have indicated they are not prepared to enter negotiations.

The club’s previous target, Julian Alvarez, has become virtually unattainable, forcing Barcelona to pivot to Martinez. While the player is reportedly enthusiastic about a move to the Catalan side, the transfer remains uncertain until Barcelona can satisfy Inter’s demands and a substantial fee. The situation highlights the difficulties Barcelona face in rebuilding their attack amid financial constraints.

Why it matters

The potential signing could reshape Barcelona's attack but hinges on Inter's willingness to sell.
