The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is set to conduct its first parliamentary elections on September 14, after multiple postponements extended the transition period to about seven years. More than 2.3 million voters are registered, with Lanao del Sur contributing the largest share. A total of 679 candidates have filed, representing party, district and sectoral seats, and the gender balance shows roughly 69 % male and 31 % female candidates.
Generation X candidates form the largest age cohort, and the candidate field is heavily weighted toward Maguindanao del Norte. Security concerns have led the Commission on Elections to label 108 locations as at risk, the highest concentration in Lanao del Sur. Prominent parties such as the United Bangsamoro Justice Party and the Bangsamoro Federalist Party together account for nearly a quarter of all candidacies, while recurring surnames highlight the influence of political dynasties.
