Barnet Group dismisses former Grenfell Tower official after public outcry

The Barnet Group has terminated Ms Johnson, who previously oversaw Grenfell Tower renovations, following strong criticism from survivors and families.

A public inquiry found that Ms Johnson had advocated for a cheaper contractor for Grenfell Tower, resulting in the use of plastic-filled panels instead of metal cladding. Despite this, she was promoted to director of development and property at the Barnet Group, which manages about 14,000 council homes in north London. The appointment triggered backlash from Grenfell United and other victims, who called it a scandal.

Barnet Homes later announced that Ms Johnson is no longer employed by the organization. Her dismissal follows a recent police referral of 54 individuals and 20 companies to the Crown Prosecution Service as part of the ongoing Grenfell fire probe.
