Baseball legend and record-holder Jang Hoon passes away at 86
Jang Hoon, the Japanese-born Korean who holds NPB’s all-time hit record, died at age 86 in a Tokyo hospital.
Jang Hoon, born in Hiroshima in 1940 and known as Harimoto Isao in Japan, died in a Tokyo hospital on the 9th. He amassed 3,085 hits, the most in Nippon Professional Baseball history, and was a seven-time batting champion. His career spanned the Doei Flyers, Yomiuri Giants and Lotte (now Chiba Lotte) from 1959 to 1981. After retiring, he served as a special aide to the Korea Baseball Organization until 2005 and received South Korea’s Order of Mugunghwa in 2007.
