Basque government grants third-degree release to convicted ETA terrorist Henri Parot
Henri Parot, responsible for 82 murders and numerous other crimes, has been granted third-degree parole by the Basque authorities.
The Basque government has approved a third-degree parole for Henri Parot, an ETA operative linked to 82 killings and a range of other serious offenses. Parot served time for murder, attempted murder, causing injuries, illegal detentions, and handling weapons and explosives, among other charges. He belonged to the Argala command, which carried out some of ETA's most brutal attacks, notably the 1987 assault on the Guardia Civil barracks in Zaragoza that left eleven dead, five of them children, and wounded many others.
The release has been sharply criticized by the Basque Victims of Terrorism Collective (Covite), which calls the parole a fraudulent abuse of the system. The decision highlights ongoing tensions over how former terrorists are treated in the region.
