Baťa shuts shoe plant in Dolní Němčí, ending jobs for about 90 workers
Baťa announced the closure of its shoe factory in Dolní Němčí, which will affect roughly 90 employees, many of whom are local residents.
Baťa will stop manufacturing shoes at its Dolní Němčí plant, a site that has been producing footwear since 1970 and was re-established after the company's return to the former Czechoslovakia in 1992. The decision, explained by board member Andrea Montagnoli, stems from the plant’s inability to remain profitable in today’s market. Mayor František Hajdůch, whose town has just under three thousand inhabitants, called the news a “very unpleasant” development for many locals who have strong ties to the factory.
Baťa is in talks with the municipal council, the regional labour office and representatives of the trade union to determine the terms of each employee’s departure. A dedicated support programme will be offered to help the affected workers find new employment. The company said it will handle each case individually in the coming days.
