Bawag posts higher Q3 earnings and readies PTSB acquisition
Bawag reported a rise in third-quarter profit thanks to stronger net interest earnings and lower operating costs, and reaffirmed its full-year profit target while preparing to acquire Ireland's PTSB.
Bawag announced that its third-quarter results showed a higher net profit, propelled by an eight-percent rise in net interest earnings and a ten-percent reduction in operating costs thanks to realized synergies. The bank's CET1 capital ratio reached 17.1 percent, improving by three percentage points from the previous year. It reaffirmed its full-year profit objective and confirmed that the acquisition of Irish lender PTSB has received shareholder approval.
The transaction is slated to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2026 or the first quarter of 2027, and Bawag stated it is well positioned to finance the deal internally. CEO Anas Abuzaakouk highlighted the move as part of the bank's strategy to evolve into a pan-European and U.S. banking group.
Why it matters
The earnings boost and acquisition plan signal Bawag's growing strength and its ambition to expand across Europe and the US.
