Bay Area heat expected to linger into October, forecasters warn
Temperatures across the Bay Area will stay above seasonal norms through mid-October, with inland highs reaching the 90s and San Francisco staying in the 70s.
A prolonged heat wave is set to dominate the Bay Area’s weather, with forecasts showing temperatures well above the seasonal average through the middle of October. Inland locations such as San Jose are expected to see highs in the low 90s, while San Francisco and Oakland will likely stay in the 70s, though neighborhoods like the Mission District could climb into the low 80s. National Weather Service meteorologist Dial Hoang highlighted that San Francisco may enjoy its first run of ten consecutive 70-degree days in October since 2015, and warned that a strengthening high-pressure system could drive temperatures into triple-digit territory by mid-next week.
The warm spell coincides with upcoming fall events, including the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and Fleet Week. Hoang urged the public to drink plenty of water, use shade, and be mindful of increased fire danger, though strong winds that could exacerbate fires are not anticipated.
