Bayern Munich Arrives Early to Train on Stavanger's Artificial Pitch Ahead of Champions League Tie

Bayern Munich will train on Viking Stadion's artificial turf on Monday, a day before their Champions League match against Viking in Stavanger.

Bayern Munich is set to break from its normal schedule by traveling to Stavanger a day before their Champions League group match with Viking, training on the club’s artificial turf at Viking Stadion on Monday evening. The German champions, who usually train at their Säbener Straße facility the day before a game, opted for early practice to get accustomed to the surface and determine appropriate footwear, according to manager Vincent Kompany.

Viking’s coach Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim pointed out that Bayern also benefits from an extra day of rest, having played the previous Saturday while Viking played Friday. Players like Zlatko Tripic highlighted Bayern’s professionalism and the strategic advantage of testing the pitch in advance. The match is scheduled for Tuesday at 21:00, marking Viking’s first home game in the competition. Both sides view the encounter as a significant challenge.

Why it matters

It shows how Bayern Munich adapts its preparation to unfamiliar artificial surfaces, influencing match dynamics in European competition.
