BC Conservative support climbs to 42% while NDP slips to 40% in new poll
A late-September Ipsos poll shows BC Conservative backing at 42%, edging ahead of the BC NDP at 40% after recent leadership shifts.
An Ipsos poll of 1,001 British Columbians carried out from Sept. 25 to 29 indicates the BC Conservatives have increased their support by seven points to 42%, now two points ahead of the BC NDP, which slipped to 40%. The shift occurs after Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigned and interim leader Lorne Doerkson assumed the role, and as Premier David Eby’s personal impression ratings have declined. Senior vice-president Kyle Braid said the numbers contrast sharply with a poll two weeks earlier that showed the NDP leading comfortably.
Voters continue to rank cost of living, health care and housing affordability as top concerns, while issues such as U.S. trade receive little attention. Half of respondents disapprove of holding an election now, with higher disapproval among Conservative supporters and older voters.
Why it matters
The poll suggests a tightening race that could reshape British Columbia's upcoming election outcome.
