BCCI opts to host IPL 2027 mini auction in India after overseas editions

The Board of Control for Cricket in India decided the 2027 IPL mini-auction will be held in an Indian city, reversing the overseas venues used since 2023.

The BCCI's governing council announced that the IPL 2027 mini-auction will be conducted in an Indian city, moving away from the pattern of overseas venues such as Kochi, Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi used in recent years. Franchise representatives had raised issues about the operational strain of sending delegations abroad, prompting the council to consider a domestic venue. While the mini-auction will be held in India, the larger auction scheduled for the following year could remain overseas.

The council also deferred a decision on the Impact Player rule, scheduling a dedicated meeting within the next month to reach a final verdict. Earlier consultations indicated most franchises prefer retaining the rule for at least another season. The upcoming meeting will determine whether any changes are made before the next season.

Why it matters

Holding the IPL mini-auction in India eases travel burdens for teams and could influence future tournament logistics.
