Bell outage disrupts phone service and emergency lines across Newfoundland and Labrador
A Bell telecommunications failure is preventing voice calls, including some 911 attempts, throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
Bell Aliant announced a province-wide telecommunications outage that is stopping voice calls for many customers in Newfoundland and Labrador, including some attempts to dial 911. The company urged anyone needing urgent help to go directly to the nearest fire station, police station, or hospital. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed its non-emergency reporting line is offline, but said the 911 service itself is still functional.
Newfoundland Power added that its customer service and emergency phone numbers cannot be reached, offering a separate number for power-related emergencies. Additionally, the City of St. John's reported that its 311 service is inaccessible to Bell customers. Officials are working to restore service as quickly as possible.
Why it matters
The outage hampers residents' ability to contact emergency and utility services during a critical communications failure.
