Bella Modular halts projects, promises third-party takeover amid deposit concerns

Bella Modular, a Western Australian producer of transportable granny flats and home-office units, sent letters to all clients announcing it will cease direct construction and has already left its premises. Citing “unforeseen and significant financial difficulties,” the firm arranged for an independent, fully resourced modular builder to take over each project, though it did not name the successor or explain how customer deposits will be handled.

Deposits of $90,000 from Peter Elliot and nearly $160,000 from Steve Evans illustrate the scale of funds at risk, and both customers expressed distress over delayed timelines and unclear outcomes. A prior apology on April 30 admitted “atrocious” communication and promised a strategic plan, yet the company now owes the Australian Taxation Office $576,614.68 and faces three lawsuits totaling just over $170,000. Former client Caroline Marsh recounted receiving modules after more than two years with minimal contact. Bella Modular’s owners have not responded to requests for comment.
