Bellona files police complaint over alleged unsafe conditions at Equinor's Melkøya site

Bellona has submitted a formal complaint to the Oslo police district, alleging that Equinor's operations at Melkøya have exposed workers to dangerous conditions throughout the 2023-2026 phase of the Snøhvit Future project. The NGO examined about 200 internal documents and conducted interviews with employees, concluding that the risks are severe enough to warrant a halt to all activity until further notice. The filing references multiple alerts, incident reports and information from staffing agencies and unions.

Equinor countered that it has already investigated the matters, published its findings and introduced measures to improve safety and the work environment. A spokesperson for Equinor confirmed the company's awareness of Bellona's complaint and reiterated the steps taken. The case now awaits police assessment to determine whether any criminal liability exists.
