Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington Lead Kidnapping Thriller in Netflix's Animals Trailer

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming crime drama "Animals," starring Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington as Mark and Abigail Kimball, a couple whose son has been abducted. The wordless preview depicts the pair abandoning their carefully managed lives—Affleck's character is a mayoral candidate in Los Angeles—to gather a ransom and confront a network of political and criminal adversaries. Gillian Anderson plays a fixer hired to assist the rescue, while Steven Yeun portrays the candidate's campaign manager; Luis Gerardo Méndez and Adriana Paz also appear in supporting roles.

The screenplay was originally written by Connor McIntyre, with later revisions by Billy Ray and Affleck, who also directs and co-writes. Production is handled by Artists Equity, MakeReady and Fifth Season, with Matt Damon, Dani Bernfeld, Brad Weston and Collin Creighton among the producers. "Animals" is set for a limited theatrical release and streaming on Netflix on Oct. 9.
