Ben Affleck Says He Has No Interest in Running for Office
Ben Affleck, promoting his Netflix movie Animals, reiterated that he does not want to pursue a political career.
Ben Affleck, 54, is currently promoting the Netflix film Animals, a story about a Los Angeles mayoral hopeful whose son is kidnapped. When asked whether he might translate the fictional role into a real campaign, Affleck said he sees politics as a bleak arena and has no desire to run. He referenced similar rumors from 2012, noting he never engaged in conjecture about a Senate bid.
Co-star Kerry Washington had earlier urged him to consider a run, but Affleck remained firm. He also explained his reluctance to use social platforms, mentioning two Instagram bans and a belief that an online presence erodes an actor’s mystique. Outside of film, he continues to advocate on issues such as Alzheimer’s research and supports a nonprofit in the Congo.
