Bengaluru couple found dead after husband’s suicide note cites house dispute
A 32-year-old civil engineer in north Bengaluru sent a WhatsApp voice message to his mother before being discovered dead by hanging, while his 29-year-old wife was found dead in their rented house; police have not yet determined how she died.
In north Bengaluru, 32-year-old civil engineer Sumant Jain sent a WhatsApp voice note to his mother at about 1.30 am, stating he was in a dispute with his wife Padmavathi after she told him the house belonged to her, and that he planned to take his own life. After failing to reach him by phone, his mother and other relatives entered the couple’s rented residence in Rajeshwarinagar, Laggere, where they discovered Jain hanging from a ceiling fan and Padmavathi lying lifeless on the floor.
Padmavathi, 29, worked for a tech firm in Whitefield and hailed from Dharwad district; the pair had been married for four years and had no children. Their families lodged a complaint accusing Jain of killing Padmavathi, but Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Nagesh DL said the investigation has not yet clarified whether her death was a homicide or a suicide. Police are continuing to gather evidence surrounding the incident.
