Bengaluru police free over 500 children in citywide labour crackdown

Special teams of Bengaluru police and labour inspectors conducted surprise checks at 6,076 commercial and industrial sites, freeing 529 children engaged in illegal labour. Authorities registered 105 cases against the owners and managers of these establishments under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act, with investigations ongoing. The West division rescued the most children, tallying 103, while the Central Crime Branch filed the highest number of cases at 26.
The operation was launched after Chief Minister D K Shivakumar ordered action following observations of child labour at the APMC Yard in Yashwanthpur. Police statements indicated that the effort spanned multiple police jurisdictions throughout the city.
