Berkshire Hathaway expands Alphabet and homebuilder holdings in Q2

Berkshire Hathaway increased its investment in Alphabet and U.S. homebuilders during the second quarter while trimming positions in several financial and other firms.

According to a regulatory filing, Berkshire Hathaway enlarged its Alphabet investment by acquiring roughly 48.1 million additional shares, lifting its total to about 106 million and valuing the holding at $37.76 billion at quarter-end. The move follows a $10 billion commitment made by CEO Greg Abel in June to deepen the stake that began last fall. In the housing sector, the firm raised its Lennar position by almost 30 % and opened a small stake in D.R.

Horton, while completing a $6.8 billion acquisition of builder Taylor Morrison. Berkshire also increased its ownership of Delta Air Lines and Macy’s, with those stakes worth about $5.37 billion and $173 million respectively. Conversely, the company trimmed holdings in Kroger, steelmaker Nucor, dialysis provider DaVita, and sold all of its Constellation Brands shares, alongside reductions in Bank of America, Ally Financial and Capital One Financial. Warren Buffett remains chairman and largest shareholder, though the firm does not comment on quarterly portfolio changes.
